3. Blackbeard
Blackbeard or Edward Teach was a former Royal Navy sailor who turned to piracy. His most successful and notorious attack was a raid of Charleston, South Carolina. He was an ally to Charles Eden, the governor of North Carolina who pardoned him for previous piracy acts. Blackbeard was killed in skirmish with a pirate hunting team led by Lieutenant Robert Maynard, who was sent by Alexander Spotswood, the Governor of Virginia.
