Asafa Powell is a Jamaican athlete, who specializes in 100m sprint. In 2004, at Athens he was expected to win the 100m sprint event but he only managed to reach the fifth position. In 2007, he broke the world record in 100m sprint with 9.77s. Powell also recorded running times of 9.77 s in two occasions, on June 2006 and August 2006. Finally, he further lowered the world record to 9.72 s during the semifinal of an athletic event in Rieti, Italy.
