26. Val d’Orcia
It is the distinctive aesthetic of the landscape that has put the Val d’Orcia on the world heritage site map. The landscape presents a pretty picture of conical hills jutting out of flat plains, the hills having fortified settlements exemplifying the beauty of how the people in the Renaissance era lived in peace and harmony with nature.
25. Cathedral, Torre Civica and Piazza Grande, Modena
The Cathedral of Modena holds historic significance for its backdrop to the Romanesque art. The soaring tower and the Piazza testify to the power that the Canossa dynasty had under whose reign the cathedral was commissioned. The masterpiece by Wiligelmus and Lanfranco, the two artists who designed the cathedral shows the cultural traditions followed in the 12th century.
