5. New Zealand Earthquake
The February 2011 earthquake that hit Christchurch was the second deadliest natural disaster reported in New Zealand. The earthquake with magnitude 6.3 damaged the Canterbury region in New Zealand, killing 183 people and causing widespread destruction to provincial and residential buildings. Though there were no direct fatalities but the significant damage caused to the entire region made this event to be the sixth top disaster in the year 2011.
