3. Moon is Slowly Going Away
The Moon rotates around the Earth in its orbit but each year, it is moving away from the Earth by about 1.6 inches or 4 centimeters. The reason for this moving away is the tides. The gravity of the moon pulls at the Earth’s crust distorting it by a few centimeters. The rotation of the moon is faster than its orbit which results in the bulge of the Earth pulling the moon out of its orbit.
