Before the World Wide Web, Apple’s Hypercard was the first successful hypermedia system. It combined advanced database capabilities with flexible, user-modifiable graphical interface. It was released in 1987 and eventually saw a loss in popularity with the rise of the WWW. The World Wide Web could deliver data from global network, without being limited to files on local hard drives. Nevertheless, Hypercard still offered a significant impact to the development of HTTP.
