Sea of Cortez, Baja, California, Mexico
The Sea of Cortez (Gulf of California) located just south of Baja is perhaps the best place in the world to see blue whales. These huge creatures grow to 75 feet lengths and weigh over 100 tons. You can see them with regularity from January to April with a number of baleen (filter-feeding) whales like the fin and humpback. During this season gray whales court and calf in the lagoons with their scarred, barnacled bodies.
