Her career began in nightclubs when she performed stand-up comedy. She rose to prominence by producing and presenting the Rosie O’Donnell show. She also participated in various films, such as Beautiful Girl, The Flintstones, Sleepless in Seattle and A League of Their Own. She admitted to be a lesbian in 2002 and had a civil union with Kelli Carpenter, a marketing manager. O’Donnell conceived a baby using donated sperm.
