Under the leadership of its founding director, Sabine Breitwieser, the Generali Foundation acquired a unique and unparalleled collection of contemporary and conceptual art.
Regardless of its merger with the BAWAG Foundation in 2007—an odd collaboration considering some of the art housed at the Generali is directly critical of financially aimed foundations like BAWAG—the foundation continues with ambitious acquisition goals.
Now under the direction of Sabine Folie, the Generali, firmly grounded in its devotion to ’60s and ’70s conceptual art, houses 2,100 works by 180 international artists and is expanding its conservation, collection and documentation of non-conventional, non-conformist art.
