“Coxinhas,” the tasty and traditional Brazilian bar snack, are made from minced, spiced chicken crammed—quite often with Catupiry cheese—into drumstick-shaped wheat flour envelopes and deep fried until they’ve achieved just the right level of crispy, melt-in-your mouth deliciousness.
Frangó not only boasts some of the best coxinhas in town: it also offers more than 200 different kinds of beer to wash them down with. In fact, when it comes to hops-flavored brews, this bar is a regular United Nations. It stocks bottles from German, Belgium, France, England, Ireland, Scotland, Netherlands, Mexico, Uruguay and Argentina, as well as a considerable range of local beer.
Plates of 10 over-stuffed coxinhas are certainly the most popular order, but Frangó also makes a fine “frango à passarinho” (fried pullet). And on Wednesdays and Saturdays, in accordance with local tradition, the bar also serves Brazil’s national dish “feijoada”, a bean and pork-based stew.
