You can’t really go wrong at Lanchonete da Cidade: located in the lovely Jardims neighborhood, sporting a stylish 1950s/1960s decor and serving juicy hamburgers on homemade buns, this diner strives for the kind of authenticity last seen in the film Rebel Without A Cause.
Besides the ubiquitous burgers—which come in all shapes, sizes and trimmings, including veggie—Lanchonete da Cidade offers hot dogs, toasted sandwiches, omelettes and French fries. In spite of this fast-food theme, the salads are fresh and interesting. But, as if to make up for this small foray into healthy eating, the desserts are dangerously rich: try the “taça Manhattan”, a brownie that arrives in a glory of ice cream and chocolate syrup.
