Tucked away behind a the parking lot, “Jazz nos Fundos” (Jazz in the Background) truly lives up to its name: from the outside, you’d never guess that it was a club at all, much less one where it’s possible to spend any number of long, sultry nights.

The music is unforgettable and Jazz nos Fundos’ combination of laissez faire and rusty glamor—it is decorated with stylish junk from São Paulo’s streets—provides just the right setting.

But the club does not limit itself to jazz: during the intermissions silent movies, animated film shorts and photos are projected onto the walls. At Jazz nos Fundos’ entrance, a small gallery exhibits works by young artists. And all this culture can be washed down with an Erdinger beer or a glass of 12-year-old scotch.
