The Paula Immich Showroom lies on a stretch of Mitte that might seem unlikely until you swing north from Weinbergspark and realize just how fashion-savvy Brunnenstraße has become.
The bright and airy showroom combines shop and atelier in a way that truly opens up the space to the customer. A work table covered with scraps of fabric and measuring tools greets visitors upon entry. Showcasing a few select avant-garde but wearable pieces, both expertly and interestingly tailored, in a range of high quality fabrics (drapey tulle and soft tweed). Edgy surprises make the store’s wares shine brighter, like an animal skull sitting on a pedestal, or leather booties printed along one side with the bones of a foot.
Whereas many shops and shopkeepers of such high caliber can seem standoffish at first, Immich is eager to encourage first-timers to become regulars with her openness and charm. She is happy to mix and match the best pieces for her customers and, by her own admission, won’t lie about what looks good and what doesn’t. In order to create a local, neighborhood feel, the shop has already started hosting small events, such as evening film screenings and classic salons.
