Amsterdam import Edial Dekker is an avid urban gardener, cook and surfer. These days though, he might be better known as the co-founder and CEO of Berlin-based Gidsy, a marketplace for authentic experiences. Anyone in the world can explore, offer and book pretty much anything—from musical walking tours, squid cooking courses, fundraising workshops and street-photography master classes. Edial moved to Berlin about three years ago and has no plans of moving anywhere else soon.
Just as Dekker has created his own space to flourish in the city, he’s fascinated in how other Berliners have claimed their own spaces to forge a unique identity. He’s assembled some of his favorite places for Unlike, demonstrating how this city is endlessly malleable to the aspirations of those who inhabit it.

This place is magical. There are many locals (including me) who grow vegetables and flowers here. There is a great organization and incredibly mixed community of passionate urban gardeners who help you in DIY gardening
Kevin and Jeffrey are amazing guys and their restaurant is one of my favorite places in Berlin. Organically sourced produce is really important, and Kevin and Jeffrey know exactly where their food comes from.
Just around this Gidsy office, you can get great lunches at their Gartenküche. If you have green thumbs or want to learn more about the place, you can help gardening a few times a week.
Betahaus is all about collaboration, making and learning. You’ll be sure to run into some amazing people here, and make sure you try out the fair-trade coffee from Coffee Circle here.
If you’re into crafting, you want to be here. Among the many other things to learn here every week, you can learn how to do silk screening, how to make jewelry and how to make pots.
This is a good place to spend time on Saturday. You can buy local food, excellent wines and great crepes here.
Oh la la, this place is a hidden gem. You have to pay a small entrance fee, but inside, there is a stunning garden with many, many different kinds of flowers and older people.
It looks a little bit cheap, but this place has amazing value for your bucks. Using food from local farmers’ markets, this place serves great changing daily dishes.
Best place for sushi in Neukölln by miles. The only two people making the food here are a father and his son. And you can taste this. Super great.
