Rumors swirling around town of a Mexican joint for foodies have been proven fact. Maria Bonita on barren Danziger Straße is no bigger than the bathroom at Dolores but delivers a far more authentic menu full of bold flavors: papas con chorizo comes as a massive plate or filling for a burrito, enchiladas smothered in fiery salsa verde (with chiles sent from one of the three owners’ mother in Texas), fresh fish tacos with chunky guacamole and rotating specials like chile relleños and ceviche. Your mouth will pop with pleasure.
No more than a cramped counter top, bar stools and picnic tables pouring onto the sidewalk, the eatery channels the grit and gristle spirit of nearby White Trash, where the proprietors—an Australian, Mexican and Texan—all worked manning the stove.
