Occupying a sunny corner in Prenzlauer Berg, Hilde is a supremely comfortable daytime hang out. The pair of visual artists who own the space have imbued it with an authentic charm—the photos of famous Hildes from stage and screen that fill the walls, the used books dotted around the windowsills, and the eclectic collection of mid-century furniture all invite extended lingering.
A rotating daily selection of bistro options emphasizes fresh, seasonal ingredients: salads filled with goat cheese and figs, baked potatoes stuffed with spinach and gorgonzola, triple-decker sandwiches, and fresh, daily offerings of brownies, flapjacks and cheesecakes—whenever possible, the ingredients are local and sustainably sourced. The breakfast menu is offered until Noon during the week, but better to hold out for a weekend visit when a full Irish breakfast, featuring imported bacon, sausages and black pudding, is offered until mid-afternoon.
