De Bakkerswinkel
High tea in the red light district

The Warmoesstraat is a street you would normally associate with sex shops, drug runners and sleazy bars for British pub crawlers, not with tittering ladies enjoying high tea. The Bakkerswinkel is trying to change that, giving people a decent place to lunch after shopping for the best bedroom accessories.

A safe haven tucked away between all the flesh-colored cheapness the street has to offer, the Bakkerswinkel layout is absolutely massive, and decorated in an intriguing blend of flowery wallpaper, kitschy artwork and sleek design.

You can choose between a high tea (sweet and/or savory), a variety of sandwiches, breakfast or cakes. All the pastries and breads are baked on the spot and simply delicious. Though there have been reports of bad service or bad food, most folks leave with a happy face and a satisfied appetite. Make sure to make reservations though, there are a lot of hungry ladies in that part of town.
