There’s no shortage of Asian eateries on the Zeedijk, the main road running through Amsterdam’s Chinatown, but Bird is one of its most popular places. Actually, it’s two, since there are actually two Birds: this full-blown restaurant and a slightly more modest eatery across the street.
Both offer tantalizing Thai experiences, though the restaurant has a slightly larger array of dishes to choose from and charges a bit more for them. The snack bar on Zeedijk 77 is pretty cramped and can get awfully crowded, so when you actually manage to get a seat, you’ll get a lot of resentful stares in return. If this sounds unappealing, you might want to shell out some extra dough for a more relaxed atmosphere or alternatively, take your meal home and enjoy it there.
Bird’s red and yellow curries are widely praised, you can’t really go wrong with those and the portions are ludicrously generous. The only real downside is that the snack bar doesn’t serve a nice cold beer to wash it all down with.
