This smoldering gem of a cocktail bar is right off the Leidseplein, but manages to distance itself entirely from the dirty, touristy tackiness that can sometime plague the popular square. It’s owned by the same people as the popular Jimmy Woo nightclub across the road.
As you enter, plush red velvet walls and seats greet you to your right. On your left is a well-stocked bar. As you move to the back, the color scheme changes to green, with olive upholstered chairs and, most strikingly, a full wall of bamboo, highlighted and encased in glass. The mirrored ceiling reflects Suzy Wong’s opulent but casual glow.
The cocktails are delicious and inventive, if a little pricey. The Pink Suzy, at €8, consists of mandarin-flavored vodka, triple sec, lemon and cranberry juice, while the Golden Delicious, also €8, is made of dark rum, mint, lime and sugar.
