8. Rosetta Stone
Until this was discovered in 1799, we had no idea what any of the Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs meant. This stone was the key to unlocking that language. It is currently on display at the British Museum where it came after the Brits defeated the Egyptians in 1801.
