2. Battlestar Galactica
Although this started with an original series in 1978, it’s actually the newer version that sits near the top of our list. The new series started in 2003 with a miniseries, it was then turned into a weekly TV show that ran from 2004 to 2009. All versions of Battlestar Glactica follow a human civilization in a distant part of our galaxy. They live on a group of planets called the Twelve Colonies and have been at war with a cybernetic race called the Cylons for a number of years. When they are hit hard by the Cylons a spacecraft carrier named Battlestar Galactica takes the surviving humans in search of the fabled colony called Earth.
