A writer known for his macabre, fictional and detective stories, Edgar Allan Poe was never a successful writer in terms of earning money. His works though published at that time did not garner him enough rewards and fame. It was only after his death that recognition and fame came to him. His work today is regarded as the backbone of a new style of writing, that of detective-fiction.
