9. Steve Prefontaine
Steve Roland Prefontaine was an American long distance athlete and considered one of the best in the nation’s history. He broke the United States record for various distances from 2,000m to 10,000m. Prefontaine’s popularity was contributed to his aggressive style and charisma. On 1975, Profontaine drove down a familiar road and hit a rock wall after the car swerved left without explanation, the car overturned, trapping Prefontaine underneath it. He died before any emergency service could handle the situation. His blood-alcohol level was low and the cause of crash is still uncertain until today. He died at 24.
