Stephen King portrayed Annie as a disturbed, cunning and dangerously brutal woman who hides her mental issues behind a pleasant façade. The film characterizes her as a very paranoid individual, who shows signs of bipolar disorders. Annie also exhibits strong attachment to romance novels.
Her unexpectedly violent tantrums are often shocking as she is willing to inflict wounds over insignificant matters. In a probably the most cringe-inducing scene of the film industry, Annie decapitated the writer’s leg, while he is lying on the bed. She also cuts his thumb, smashes his still-healing knee and subjects him to endless emotional and physical suffering.
