It actually at times becomes emotionally painful too because of the long duration it follows one, leaving almost permanent scars on the skin and emotion. There are some common disorders of the body which may have acne as a part of its occurrence, such as polycystic ovary disease, several endocrine disorders, acromegaly, cushing syndrome, etc.

To explain in medical terms, acne is a disease of the pilosebaceous unit. It involves the sebaceous glands to which are attached the hair follicle, it is is through the opening of the follicle that an oily substance released by the sebaceous gland comes to the surface of the skin. A hardening of the the oily substance, called sebum, usually gives rise to acne.

Soon afterwards the acne infecting bacteria attacks the place, which causes the signaling of the immune system to release white blood cells to counter attack the bacteria. During this process, the dead white blood cells accumulate in the hair follicle along with bacteria and dead skin particles and debris, thereby, plugging the follicle. When the walls of this plugged follicle starts to break it spills the sebum, bacteria which culminates into lesions and pimples. These pimples also known as zits commonly, generally appear on the face, neck, shoulder, back and chest.

Since these appear on those parts of the body that are visible to people, those affected by it become extremely conscious of their looks, and this is when you should consult an expert in this genre.
