4 Mins read

The Indian budget smartphone market is turning into a fierce battle field with innumerable latest attractive model launches. The already heated up competition of the budget smartphones has become even more intense as India’s own mobile manufacturing major, Micromax has again launched a new handset in this segment to compete with the several Chinese mobile makers who have been recently flooding the market with several alluring new models and gained leadership control over this space.

Micromax’s latest model to join the party is the Canvas Evok. The new Micromax Canvas Evok has launched in India on 16th of May, 2016 with a very attractive price tag of just Rs. 8,499. The newly launched Micromax Canvas Evok has gone on sale from 17th May and is exclusively available on online retailer Flipkart.

With the launch of the Canvas Evok that is said to be meant for the young professionals, Micromax wishes to grab the limelight that has been currently shinning on the Chinese brands such as Xiaomi, Meizu, Lenovo and LeEco.

The latest Indian highly affordable smartphone, Micromax Canvas Evok has several powerful rivals in the market including the highly praised Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, LeEco Le 1s Eco, Meizu M3 Note, and Lenovo K4 Note, Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus, but is cheaper than many of these.

The innumerable choices in the market are bound to bewilder the buyers who are on the lookout of a latest, good quality and affordable smartphone model. While there are abundant models against which the new Micromax Canvas Evok can be compared, here we are pitching the Indian smartphone against the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 which is being used as a benchmark to judge the new budget smartphones in India.

Micromax Canvas Evok Vs Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Comparison

So, here’s a comparison between the Micromax Canvas Evok and the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 to see which one offers what and is better worth their asking price:

Display & Design

The new Micromax Canvas Evok packs in a large 5.5-inch High Definition display with a screen resolution of 720×1280 pixels that is comparatively lower than its rival here. The display comes along with a nice 2.5D arc design. There is Corning Gorilla Glass 3 to protect the screen from scratches and dust.

The Canvas Evok does not come with metallic built which is a big drawback as almost all quality budget phones nowadays are coming with premium metal frame. It gets a neat and smart design, but gets the usual plastic built.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 also comes with a 5.5-inch large display, but it gets Full HD screen resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels along with 178 degree viewing angle. The excellently sharp and vibrant screen comes with the great Sunlight display technology as well as night mode to offer superb visibility according to different usage conditions.

The Xiaomi phone flaunts a full metal unibody design which looks impressively stylish, premium and sturdy.

Result – Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 is the clear winner.

Result – Micromax Canvas Evok is the winner owing to its 3 GB of RAM support.

Battery Backup

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 draws its juice from a massive battery pack of 4,050 mAh capacity which will obviously offer great all day backup on a single charge.

In comparison, the Micromax Canvas Evok offers a lesser 3,000 mAh battery, but it should also offer all day moderate usage. Moreover, as the Canvas Evok has a lower resolution HD display, it should consume lesser battery juice and last longer. The real time backup time can be figured out only after thorough usage evaluation.

Fingerprint Sensor

The security feature of fingerprint sensor is no longer a luxury found in only premium devices. This feature that protects your precious personal data and also quickly locks unlocks the device is now widely available with several budget and mid-ranged smartphones.

While the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 offers the convenience and security of the fingerprint sensor at the back of the smartphone, the Micromax Canvas Evok lacks this important feature.

The Xiaomi phone offers a better display, design, camera, larger battery and fingerprint reader and thus, definitely offers much better value for money than the Micromax Canvas Evok, while the price difference is really not much.
