Can Electronic Cigarettes Help You Quit?

2 Mins read

Electronic cigarette sales are on the rise, and the ecig industry is growing at an incredible pace. But why? The answer is simple–many people today are purchasing vapor pens in hopes of using them to give up smoking cigarettes. Doctors and public health experts typically agree that using a hookah pen is a safer way to get nicotine than smoking, and there are many testimonials from people raving about how vapor pens have changed their lives.

Can Electronic Cigarettes Help You Quit?

So are vaporizer pen products really helping people quit? Will an ecig work for you?

The truth is that there’s no way to know until you try. Some people are able to use an electronic cigarette to give up tobacco, but others fall short of accomplishing their goal. If you’re considering an e cigarette to help you quit, here are four important things that you need to know.

Vapor pens are not smoking cessation aids

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is responsible for approving devices that are to be marketed as smoking cessation aids. At this time, the FDA has only given their approval to nicotine replacement products like lozenges, patches, gum, and to prescription drugs. While this doesn’t mean that an ecig won’t help you quit, it does mean that the FDA has not tested vapor pens to see if they work well for all people.

Can Electronic Cigarettes Help You Quit?

There just isn’t enough scientific evidence to prove or disprove the benefits of a hookah pen for quitting

Electronic cigarettes are still relatively new and scientists are only beginning to investigate them. There have been a couple of studies that suggest that an ecig can be effective, but so far, there is no proof that a vaporizer pen works better than any other smoking cessation product.

Ecig use is controversial

There are worries among some public health officials that some people may actually start smoking after using a vaporizer pen. This belief is largely due to a study that suggests that vapor pens may be a gateway to smoking for teens. No research has been done to determine if vapor pens have similar results for adults, but if you do choose to use a vaporizer pen, such as the gpen, you’ll want to make sure you keep it out of the reach of teens and children.

A vaporizer pen may still expose you to toxins

You won’t really hear experts argue that vapor pens expose the body to as many toxins as cigarettes, but there is evidence that there are substances in vapor like lead, cadmium, and nickel that could pose health risks. Vapor pens can also be irritating to the respiratory tract and could make you cough or feel short of breath.

If you want to quit smoking, experts recommend discussing the matter with your doctor. A physician can help decide if you should use an electronic cigarette or a different method to help you kick the habit.
