6. William Gibson

William Ford Gibson is an American-Canadian writer and a very influential figure in cyberpunk sub-genre. In a short story, Burning Chrome (1982) he coined the term “cyberspace” and later expanded the idea in Neuromancer (1984), which was also his debut novel. Gibson created a template for today’s interconnected information age, before the Internet became ubiquitous. He also predicted the rise of reality TV show in his fiction works.
His novels and short stories often depict a noir, bleak near-future society, where computer networks and cybernetics are dominant.
