10 Abandoned Cities Around the World

3 Mins read

1. Prypiat near Chernobyl, Ukraine

This is one of the most famous abandoned cities. When the Chernobyl nuclear disaster happened in 1986, everyone had to be evacuated. The 50,000 residents were only allowed to take one suitcase of belongings away with them after the accident so a lot of the city has been left just as it was on the day they evacuated. There are apartments, schools, swimming pools and open areas but because people are allowed there for short periods of time, a lot of the area has been looted and vandalised.
