7. The Shaanxi Earthquake


This incident occurred in the year 1556 when the Chinese provinces were hit by a very powerful earthquake estimated to be of 8.1 magnitude on the Richter scale. The Shaanxi earthquake was so powerful that it affected more than 8 provinces killing around 830,000 people which accounted to 60% of the population. Another similar earthquake to have struck China was in the year 1976 when the Tangshan earthquake shook the country killing around 500,000 people.
