Top 10 Weirdest Phobias

3. Nomophobia

Nomophobia is an irrational fear suffered by people who are disconnected from mobile service. It is an abbreviation of No-Mobile-Phobia and the term was coined during a government-backed study in the United Kingdom. From a sample of more than 2000 people, 53 percent admitted that they experienced anxiety when they forgot to bring a phone, have no network coverage; or run out of credit or battery life. Additionally, nearly 10 percent of them feel distressed when their phone is switched off. On average, the level of stress on people affected with nomophobia could be similar to visiting the dentist. From those affected by the anxiety, 55 percent are afraid of being “isolated” from family members and friends; and only a scant 10 percent said that phone is critical to their career or work.
