4. Ephebiphobia
The term ephebiphobia was coined by Kirk Astroth in 1994 and it is currently used internationally by youth advocacy groups, government agencies and sociologists to define fear of adolescents and their behaviors. The fear of youth affects many Western communities and it is often associated to street crime and anarchy. Numerous social disturbances and riots were started by teenagers and young adults, which have caused anxiety on some older people. In fact, Machiavelli said that fear of youth have caused the city of Florence to maintain a standing army.
