2. Never Take Out a Poorly Maintained Boat
No matter how much you want to hit the high seas with your buddy for a night of drinking and trading old college stories, do not head out in a poorly maintained vessel. The decks, hull and hatches should be watertight; you should check the engines, electrical systems, props, rigging, and sails; and you should have the tools and spare parts necessary in case something breaks.
