1. Mata Hari
The Dutch born Margaretha Geertruida had taken up the stage name of Mata Hari when she took to exotic dancing in 1905. She portrayed herself as an exotic princess from Java mixing with the upper class and becoming the courtesan to several high-ranking officials and politicians. She spied for the Germans and possibly for the French as well. However, whether she spied for the French or not is still not known as the French denied this. She was arrested in a hotel in Paris and at the age of 41 was executed in 1917.
