3. Shirakawa-go, Japan
This village is very picturesque, and that is putting it plainly. If you are familiar with carpeting terms, all the homes are built like “A” frames, or as the locals see it, hands bent in prayer. This village in a valley is starting to be taken over by time, not many traditional homes remain. However, some are open to the public and provide spectacular views of the whole valley.
