3. Dock Boggs
Dock Boggs was a banjo master, songwriter and singer who played blues and mountain music. In techniques often used by guitarist, he developed 3-finger picking method on the banjo. His other distinctive techniques are frailing or clawhammer, which involves playing a string with thumb, while picking the other two strings upward. In 1927, he recorded a few songs, but disappeared until he was rediscovered in 1960’s. Mike Seeger considered Dock’s styles as unique, which were never used by any recorded musician.
