7. Frejus, France-Italy
The construction of 13 km long tunnel Frejus in Italy started in 1974 and was thrown open to public in 1980. It connects France (Modane) with Italy (Bardonecchia). The services of the Frejus rail tunnel were closed down due to this tunnel. The total cost of the tunnel was approximately two billion Francs.
