One day, Swiss engineer George de Mestral was hunting with his dog and noticed that burrs annoyingly stick to his dog’s fur. Curiously, he checked the burr under a microscope and observed tiny hooks that make it stick to fur and other fabrics. As a result, he invented a new variety of textile using the principle of the burr.
