9. Super Glue
In 1942, Dr. Harry Coover was looking for ways to create a clear plastic for precision gun sights. At that time, he was working with a chemical compound known as cyanoacrylates which harden when it gets into contact with moisture. The hardened material was ignored until 6 years later when Dr. Coover recognized its potential for commercial use.
