Importance Of Routine Tune-Ups Of Heat Pumps

2 Mins read

An air conditioner unit or a heat pump is exposed to some tough conditions during the winter season. Snow, sleet, rain and freezing temperatures could damage some of the sensitive metallic and electronic components inside an AC condenser. As spring time arrives, a routine inspection and tune-up is necessary to prepare for optimum operation for the summer months. A 37 point diagnostic test can detect the slightest problems in an AC condenser that’s part of a forced air climate control system of a home or business. HVAC technicians often check for any leaks in the evaporator coils due to frozen refrigerant that might have caused some bursting in the supply lines. The compressor inside a condenser unit is also checked to ensure that cooling mechanisms properly work after being turned off for months. Routine inspections allow HVAC technicians to make minor repairs that can prevent the need to make replacements of expensive components.

Importance Of Routine Tune-Ups Of Heat Pumps

Climate Control System Efficiency

A heat pump that is routinely tuned up can operate much more efficiently compared to climate control units that are not inspected and maintained regularly. When it comes to installation and maintenance, following Energy Star standards for energy efficiency can save homeowners a lot of money on utility bills. Cleaning and adjusting the blower components of a heat pump can improve efficiency by up to 15 percent. Refilling the refrigerant levels of an AC unit could also help with boosting efficient operation. Certified HVAC technicians also ensure that all electrical connections are properly made to prevent short circuits, shocks and other hazards that not only decrease efficiency but also cause major damage to a climate control system. The British Thermal Unit (BTU) rating of an AC system should be selected based on the total interior volume inside a home. A heat pump with a low BTU rating might have to work extra hard to maintain a steady temperature inside a large interior space.

Air Filters

An air conditioner unit is part of a central heating and cooling system that must have some sort of air filtration technology. Air filters are typically installed in the chambers where the blowers and motors are located. Before cool air is circulated throughout vents of a home, it must pass through a high quality filter that meets the highest levels of HEPA standards. Fiberglass, pleated, electrostatic and washable are some of the common types of air filters available for modern heat pumps. Selecting the proper Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value(MERV) and Filter Performance Rating (FPR) is important when installing an air filter for a heat pump. The best air filters can remove debris such as pollen, cigarette smoke, toxic gases, mites and other contaminants that might be trapped inside the chamber of a central heating and cooling system. The bottom line is that air filters can improve the efficiency of a climate control system by allowing cool air to flow smoothly throughout the ducts and vents of a house or building.
