The Indian customers use hatchbacks or small sedans for city rides. But when it comes to long travels comfortable sedans are preferred. Entry level sedans fall short in comfort and safety features. For a comfortable journey along the Indian roads a medium range sedan is best suited. There are many sedans like the Toyota Corolla Altis, the Nissan Sunny, the Honda City, the Hyundai Verna and the Chevrolet Cruze available in the market. Considering the comfort, cost and the safety factors the Toyota Corolla Altis has an edge over the other cars.

The Toyota Kirloskar Motors Private Limited (TKMPL has launched the refreshed versions of the Toyota Corolla named the Corolla Altis in May 2014. The Toyota Altis comes in 4 diesel and 5 petrol variants. The Altis Diesel D4 DJ is the base diesel version and the 1.8 JS is the base petrol variant. Two of the petrol variants GT AT and VL AT have 6 speed CVT type auto transmissions. The ex-showroom prices range from Rupees 13.06 to 17.73 lakh.

The exteriors of the Toyota Corolla Altis is attractive with large swept back double barrel head lights, a chrome grille, a well contoured rear design, a long and wide bonnet, a wind screen with acute angles and a lower roof line. The other features on the body include fog lights on the body coloured bumpers, 15” alloy wheels for the top variants, reflectors on the rear bumper and body coloured door handles.

The cabin of the Toyota Corolla Altis has 2 air bags, middle rear 3 point belt, ABS, EBD, Brake Assist, an engine immobiliser, central and child lock facilities, a manual AC, power and tilt steering, power windows, a rear defogger, externally operated body coloured ORVMs with blinkers and a 2 Din music system with touch screen controls and Bluetooth connectivity for phone and audio controls. The VL AT variant has Electronic Stability Programme, an automatic AC, rear parking sensors with camera, leather seats, electric ORVMs, projector head lamps, rain sensing wipers, fog lamps at the front and the rear and a GPS navigation system.

The 1364 cc diesel engines of the Altis give mileages of 21.43 kmpl and the 1798 cc petrol engines give mileages of 14.53 kmpl. The dimensions of the Corolla Altis are 4620 mm length, 1776 mm width, 1475 mm height and 175 mm ground clearance. The suspension is McPherson strut type at the front and Torsion beam type at the rear.

Eye-catching looks, decent fuel efficiencies and availability of automatic transmission variants are the plus points of the car. The build quality and the loaded safety and comfort features make the Corolla Altis ideal for long journeys.
