When the gardening season is officially over, there are still several important chores that need to be done before the winter, and this is certainly not the time to relax. Even when the summer is gone, there are some simple things around the garden that need to be done which will greatly facilitate the preparation of the garden in spring and therefore, “Do not leave for tomorrow what you can do today”. Well, first things first.
Make a planting plan for autumn
It should be noted that there are plenty of plants that can survive the cold weather, so instead of abandoning your garden in winter, make sure you plant it with plants that can survive the cold days. Plant onions, carrots, cabbage, chard, broccoli, kale. These are all incredible plants that are not afraid of the winter and do not require special attention and maintenance. They are strong but are very healthy at the same time. Take advantage of their characteristics and use your garden in winter too. Plant them as quickly as possible because since the weather is cooler it will take approximately two weeks longer than usual for the plant to grow.
Winter storing
Now that you have all the fruits from the garden picked up it is time to save some for the winter. There are many different processes you can use to save fruits for the winter. You can or dry it throughout the winter to enjoy the fruits of your hard work. There are so many great recipes you can find on the internet.
Remove the remains of plants from the ground
It does not matter whether you are planning to plant new plants in the fall or not, it is necessary to take out all remnants of the old plants from the ground. Pick up the remaining fruit, and clean all the roots from the ground making sure that it is ready to be planted again.
Plant grass
So, if you decided not to plant any other plants in the winter, it will be best to plant grass which will improve the quality of the land for all those plants that will be planted the following spring and summer.
Clean and repair garden tools
When you reach the end of the season and you no longer have work in the garden, wash and repair all the tools that you use, and if necessary replace the ones that are no longer in use. Let all the tools to be neatly stacked in a shed or garage where they will impatiently wait for the new season. Take care of your garden and plants if you want it to satisfy your needs.
