3 Mins read

Have you tried dieting and working out but the needle in the weighing scale still fails to point to the direction where you want it to be? Are you already beating yourself too hard to the point of starving yourself but still, your weight doesn’t seem to go down?

Well, maybe the solution is no longer up to you. If you are already doing everything right, but your weight is still not cooperating with you, you may want to visit the doctor to determine what causes your unexplainable gain weight. To help you understand what to expect, here are some of the common causes along with the solutions of weight gain.

9 Leading And Hidden Causes And Solutions Of Weight Gain And Obesity

1. Hormonal Issues

People who are suffering from PCOS or Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome may experience weight gain. This condition is brought about by the excess production of the male hormone. However, it is not the hormone that triggers the weight gain. As of now, nobody knows, but many people suffering from PCOS have an increased risk of gaining weight.

Solution: According to studies, women with PCOS who are put on a supervised diet and strict exercise program can lose weight by about 10%.

2. Stomach Tumor

If you have gained weight in a rapid manner, a tumor in your stomach may be one of the causes of weight gain. This is a rare condition but is still a possibility.

Solution: We will never know what possible solution we have for this medical condition. The best thing that you can do is visit your doctor to know what your possible options are.

3. Medications

Are you taking any medications? Some of the medicines that are considered to be possible causes of weight gain include anti-depressants, oral contraceptives, steroids, anti-diabetes drugs, and steroids. If you are taking any of these medications, it is most likely that one of them is causing your weight gain.

Solution: You may be tempted to stop any of these medications right away but don’t do that. It is still best that you seek the suggestion of your doctor about making the big switch. After all, your health condition is more important than your appearance.

4. Fast food

Fast food meals are laden with unwanted calories because of the salt and grease that they contain.

Solution: What more can you do? Shy away from fast food products and start making healthy choices.

5. Artificial Sweeteners

This type of sweeteners has become popular because of the need for low-calorie or diet foods. But sadly, studies showed that these sweeteners have the tendency to stimulate fat storage and increase appetite for sugar.

Solution: There is no better way to avoid this than to shy away from products containing artificial sweeteners. If you are craving for sweets, try natural fruit juices or fruits instead.

6. Nutrient Deficiency

If you are following a strict diet that prevents you from getting some of the nutrients that your body needs, you may experience weight gain instead of weight loss. For one, lack of vitamin D is associated with increased risk of weight gain.

Solution: The best way to prevent this is to enjoy a healthy and balanced diet.

7. Toxins

When we talk about toxins, we are not just talking about cigarettes and alcohol (but they do play a role in weight gain too). We are also talking about the pollution, smoke, dirt, preservatives and harmful chemicals around us. When our body is exposed to high amount of these toxins, our body tends to store them in our fat cells which may cause changes in our hormonal levels that may lead to obesity.

Solution: The best solution for this is detoxification. Try a 10-day detox program, and you will certainly feel good afterwards.

8. Insomnia

Do you find it difficult to sleep at night? If yes, then you should know that it is one of the causes of weight gain. When you lack sleep, you will produce less of leptin which is the hormone that makes us feel full. In addition to that, there will be an overproduction of ghrelin or the hormone that makes us feel hungry.

Solution: The best way to avoid this is to try and regulate your sleep. You should wake up early and do some workouts so you can feel tired and sleepy at night. If your insomnia persists, it is best that you consult a doctor.

9. Stress

Stress triggers the production of hormones that are related to obesity and weight gain. One of these hormones is cortisol which encourages storage of body fats and increases our unhealthy cravings.

Solution: The best solution for this is to keep stress at bay. You can do this by working out and doing other stress-free activities like going to the spa, reading and many more.

Weight gain is common if you are not eating properly or exercising on a regular basis. But if you are trying to do things right and you are still gaining weight, you may want to consider the causes that we have mentioned above.
