We know that many times the culture of ‘use it and throw’ exaggerates about the shelf life of products, prompting us to get rid or change items in good condition for models that are just newer.
But this is not the case, as there are certain household items that need replacing today if you do not want to suffer uncomfortable consequences.
Toothbrushes should be replaced every three months, because the bristles are frayed and worn easily and fail to fulfil their cleaning function. And you know the consequences of poor brushing teeth!
- Walking Shoes
This must be one of the most difficult items to replace. Where will we find some shoes to walk all the time as comfortable as these? But precisely why you must get rid of them: if they are too comfortable, probably got lost its structure and support that give your foot. As a general rule, you should change them every 6 months.
The key element in a good rest is, without doubt, the mattress. Its comfort and stability depends largely that truly restful sleep. So it is so important to know what is best for us and what a care mattress to make your life is longer. Backaches, headache, getting tired from a poor night’s sleep are just some of the signs it’s time to change the mattress. Its half-life is eight years, depending on the quality. If not of good quality, you probably need to change it before.
Along with the new mattress should come new pillows because the pillows lose their shape and comfort. If yours has more than two years, it’s time to choose a new pillow.
- Water Filter
Filters should be changed every six months, to effectively minimize contaminants in drinking water. Always prefer the activated carbon filters, which are more effective.
- Smoke Detector and Fire Extinguisher
Smoke detectors lose their sensitivity around 10 years, so for your sake and your family do not wait until the deadline and replace them sooner! On the other hand, manufacturers often recommend replacing fire extinguishers every 5-15 years and check the gauge monthly.
- Bath & Kitchen Sponges
The sponges should be replaced every three or four weeks to avoid becoming a breeding ground for bacteria, while kitchen sponges should change when they start to look dirty and worn (between 2 and 8 weeks).
Which of these household items that need replacing today you ready to change?
