2.Thomas Chatterton

Thomas Chatterton was an English poet who adopted the persona of an imaginary monk, Thomas Rowley. Despite his young age, Chatterton was widely recognized as a very talented poet. At first, he was considered as a slow learner and he chose the solitude of an attic. He immersed himself with miniments, black-letter Bible, music folios and other old materials taken from his father’s chest, bringing deep understanding on literature far in advance of his age. He committed suicide using arsenic at the age of 24.
At the time, his death attracted little attention as he was thought as a mere transcriber. His ingenuity was commemorated by poets, writer and painters of later era. Some of his poems were also set to music and his best known piece is, O synge untoe mie roundelay.
