9. A Matter of Life and Death – England (1946)
Fantasy and romance abound in this surprising film made just after World War II. A fantastical tale about, true love, philosophy and of course, life and death. Going against the grain, the film had the fantasy elements in black and white, with the reality parts in vibrant colour. A man is put on trial to defend his life, but the interesting thing is he should already be dead. Can love prevail over death?
