Athletes seek to avoid inconsistent results and this could be caused by inconsistent motivation. Motivation itself is the key factor in good results and top performance. Motivation also allows us to persevere, regardless of pain and hardship. During their early years, many athletes have trained hard and they often failed to deliver results that they want. This causes athletes to feel disappointed and frustrated by their more recent failure during their professional careers. They could also be hurt and angry by reactions of those close to them. Through repetitions of unwanted events, they could associate failure with disappointment, hurt, frustration and anger.
They are simply afraid of experiencing multiple unpleasant emotions that could feel like a volatile mix. Whenever they become aware of the likelihood of failure, the fear response would kick in to motivate their action so they want to avoid failure and the unwanted emotional mix. This causes them to fear the failure and this could go deeper into their unconscious level. They could create goals that seem to be success oriented, but in reality, these goals are designed to avoid failure and they prevent the emergence of the same, old underlying emotions that accompany failure. Many professional athletes are actually aware of this connection.
In this case, we should be aware how fear for failure could actually become a motivation problem. When we fear failure, our primary motivation isn’t to be successful in sports, but to avoid failure. So, they consider it a successful if they are not failing. Athletes with good motivation should always be motivated and they are eager to go to the next level, not just to avoid failure. Athletes who fear the failure may experience unpleasantness. This could lead to early burnout and we could also feel bad. Fear of failure could actually prevent us from achieving great things.
In this case, they could stop trying harder, if they know that they already prevent failure. They therefore, never reach their true potentials. Fear of failure could actually nurture emotions that we seek to avoid. When failure does come, negative emotions could actually be more intense. Lack of confidence, indecision and self doubt won’t help us achieve positive results. People who fear failure could be in an emotional roller coaster. To deal with fear of failure, athletes should find and resolve root causes and work with their unconscious mind. There are skilled experts who can help athletes to do just that. This should help them to resolve negative emotions.
We should be able to resolve motivation and look for ways to form positive motivations, instead of fear of failure. By resolving negative emotions and eradicate fear of failure, we should be able to overcome inconsistent results and motivation. Athletes will be free to enjoy a sustainable form of motivation to achieve results that are meaningful for us. On top if that, we should feel good about reaching potential in sports and other areas in our life.
