Papahanaumokuakea is a collection of low lying, isolated islands and atolls near the Hawaiian Archipelago. The islands have historical significance as they are the showcase of the Hawaiian culture and the relation between nature and mankind. The islands are also significant as they have archaeological remnants from the pre-European era. The islands are also one of the largest marine protected areas.
