1 – New Jersey, Atlantic City Boardwalk
One of the best boardwalks in the U.S is located in Atlantic City and is the longest in the world and one of the oldest. It first opened its doors back in 1870 and spans 5.5 miles. It is packed with Art Deco, amazing food stalls along with many casinos. It was badly damaged during Hurricane Sandy but loyalists are helping bring this area back to its former glory.
2 – California, Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk
In the early days of boardwalks in the U.S most had an amusement park. In the West Coast, Santa Cruz is the only Broadway left that still has one. Two of its most famous rides are now part of the National Historic Landmarks. These are the Loof carousel which was hand crafted and built back in 1911 along with the Giant Dipper which is a large wooden roller coaster built back in 1924.
The amusement part is constantly adding new rides to keep it feeling fresh and there are many live concerts over the weekends you can enjoy. It also has a bowling alley, pinball, mini-golf course along with laser tag for those that want to take part in activities. It is famous for its amazing food including fresh saltwater taffy, fried artichokes, and corn dogs.
3 – California, Venice Beach, Ocean Front Walk
The Oceanfront Boardwalk is one of the most quirky in the world and you will find a whole range of extreme personalities. It is a world-famous for its weightlifters with huge men working out it is a sight you will not forget in a hurry. Walking down the boardwalk you will find many tattoo artists, fortune tellers, street performers and skateboarders. If you do visit here make sure that you take a ride on the iconic Santa Monica Pier’s Ferris wheel.
4 – Hawaii, Wailea Oceanfront Boardwalk
If you are wanting to take in beautiful surroundings in a relaxed atmosphere then this is the boardwalk for you. You will not find amusement parks, arcade games or souvenir shops but you will find stunning scenery to take in as you stroll down the boardwalk. There are many spectacular panoramas that you can take in the view which stretches for over two miles.
It is the perfect place to take in the stunning sun rises or sun sets and you can see the beautiful volcanoes, Lanai, Kahoolawe, and Molokini. If you enjoy swimming or snorkeling you can enjoy one or all the different coves you will pass by when walking down the boardwalk. There are also many coastal gardens and hikes close by where you can take in the island’s beautiful natural flora.
