Marcus Junius Brutus was a Roman military and political leader in the first century AD, at the end of the republic era. He led a group of conspirator who planned to assassinate Julius Caesar. But after the murder took place, most of the Rome population turned against the conspirators. Mark Anthony decided to take advantage of the situation by seizing power and the conspirators were charged with reason. Brutus and his men fled to Greece and raised an army for the impending war. Brutus was defeated in the Battle of Phillipi and committed suicide by throwing himself on a sword.
